Go Blues! That’s what French soccer fans chant when they’re cheering on their national team. It seems an appropriate title for this, since Americans generally treat politics like a sport. They pick their team (usually their Dads’ team). They know who their archrival is. And that’s that. No further discussion required.
(I bet just about any football fan could give you more details about the record of his (or her) team than he (or she) could about any of the presidential candidates’ voting records…)
There’s been record turnout for the blue team in the primaries so far, which gives me some hope. But do the Democrats have the attention span to bring it again in November? This is just pre-season, after all. The Big Game is still eight months away.
In the meantime, Dennis Kucinich has bowed out. I guess he doesn’t want to be a spoiler. I respect that, even though it kind of spoils my voting plans. He won’t endorse any of the other Dem candidates. I really respect that, given that none of them are anywhere near as liberal as he is (or as I am). They aren’t in his league.
We all know that unless something drastic happens, the blue team’s quarterback will be either Clinton or Obama. In 2006, eight organizations devoted to environment, children’s rights, civil rights, workers’ rights, reproductive rights and education (ADA, NARAL, NAACP, LCV, PTA, CDF, SEIU, and ACLU) gave senators a rating from 1-100, with 100 being most liberal and 1 being most conservative. Obama got a 98 and Hillary got a 95. I’d like to see the latest scores, but I imagine they’re about the same.
I hope blue fans fill the stadium on the big day. Maybe the polling places should have cheerleaders and people giving away schwag on game day… But that would be electioneering. Maybe just cheerleaders (male and female), in blue, of course. No logos or names. That would be more subtle. Subliminal, even. To hell with political correctness. What we need is political correction.
just check out this CNN post Pam:

” In somewhat of a shocking “endorsement,” conservative commentator Ann Coulter said Thursday she is prepared to vote for Clinton over McCain in a general election matchup.
In a television interview on Fox News, Coulter took aim at the GOP front-runner and suggested he was little more than a Republican in name only.
“If you are looking at substance rather than if there is an R or a D after his name, manifestly, if he’s our candidate, than Hillary is going to be our girl, because she’s more conservative than he is,” Coulter said. “I think she would be stronger on the war on terrorism.”

Ann Coulter is a famous right wing hate merchant:

Recently, the major television networks have given a platform to conservative hate merchants like Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Melanie Morgan.
Coulter’s column is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate, one of the country’s largest syndicates. Beck was recently hired by CNN Headline News. Morgan broadcasts from a radio station owned by Disney. And all three — and countless others like them — are regularly given guest spots on cable-news networks.
The fact that these right-wing pundits — who have called for the execution of public officials and others — are given a platform in the major media is unprecedented.
We, the undersigned, urge the media to stop allowing these hate merchants to spread their venom and abuse. America deserves to hear honest, reasoned debate, not rants from professional hatemongers.

And that very same Ann Coulter stated that Clinton was her “democratic” choice, giving she’s much more “conservative”.
Given Clinton’s track record, Clinton is not the person America needs in these troubled times…
If I were American, I’d go for Obama any day.
The Patriots made me cry. :(
Did you see the game???!
WTF!
Claudia… You poor thing! I’m so glad the chocolate arrived when it did. Yes, I saw the game, in a bar at Disneyland with my brother. I don’t remember the last time I saw Tom Brady throwing so many weak passes! He should have gotten his 4th ring and gone on up to Mt Olympus with the other 3 (?) who’ve had four rings… But he will.
Plus I really wanted Junior Seau to get a ring.
And I really don’t like Eli Manning.
So I feel (a bit of) your pain.
Peter. Yes, I know all about Ann Coulter and how willingly people give the hatemongers a platform… I’m with you on Obama. I’ve talked about how I feel about Hilary before (http://pamela.poole.free.fr/frogblog/?p=41 and http://pamela.poole.free.fr/frogblog/?p=320). It remains to be seen whether the Democrats are smart enough to realize that Hilary is not the one…
