What are we gonna do with these people? What, in this context, could engender such blind rage? Democrats are supposed to be the cool party (at least relative to Republicans), the unselfish ones, the people who really give a shit about the greater good and the common welfare.

This is not a football game. Can somebody tell these morons there’s a lot more at stake here?

I didn’t see purple-faced Obama supporters hissing and spitting that they’d vote for McCain if Obama weren’t the candidate. But I did hear people say they’d refuse to vote for Hillary.

I didn’t want to vote for her. But, ultimately, I couldn’t be that selfish.

Even though it would burn my ass to have to vote for Hillary for president, I’d do it because I know that America’s situation is dire, because I believe Democrats have their priorities right (at least relative to Republicans), because I don’t think the differences between Obama’s plans and hers are that significant. And because I think Hilary could do a decent job.

But we need more than that. If this primary season had been an NFL training camp, and the QB slot needed to be filled, Obama would come out the starter and Hilary would be the backup. Why? Because the coaches look for magic. And they want to see what their star rookie can do. They’ll only start the workhorse QB who’ll do a decent job if they have no choice.

It looks like Obama is the candidate. Democrat voters went with the rookie. Barely.

I have very little hope for a Democratic win in November. I don’t believe most Americans can be discerning or make informed decisions. I’ve lost faith in most Americans’ ability to step back and be rational. And it’ll take most Americans for Obama to win.

If he loses against McCain it will be because of spite, ignorance, and racism. America is already suspected of being just this ugly. If he loses, there will be no more doubt. If he loses, it will be because of selfish people who don’t have the sense to know this isn’t a game.

If you know any of those rabid Hillary supporters who are dead-set against Obama, do the un-American thing and confront them about their politics. Use the football analogy, this time with Obama and McCain. Tell ‘em they’re the coaches and ask who, realistically, they’d like to have starting in the fall: the star rookie or the workhorse whose had a few too many concussions.

Maybe they’ll be able to understand that.
